The new song came just days after Johnson announced that he had signed with a new record label.
Jamey Johnson Joins Warner Music Nashville
On October 2, Grand Ole Opry member Jamey Johnson announced that he had signed a deal with Warner Music Nashville through his own label, Big Grasses Records. This exciting career move follows Johnson’s gradual return to releasing new music, including tracks like “Sober,” “What a View,” “21 Guns,” and “Trudy,” a collaboration with Randy Houser.
According to a statement made by Johnson, the decision to join Warner Music Nashville was an easy one, thanks to his longtime friendship with the company’s Co-Chair and Co-President, Cris Lacy.
“The reason I signed with Warner Music Nashville is [Co-Chair & Co-President] Cris Lacy. She is one of my longest-term friends I’ve had in the music business. We started our careers around the same time. She has been a friend to me and has only ever tried to help.”
Johnson also shared that Cris Lacy genuinely cares about his career and the music he creates, making him even more eager to work with the label.
“She cares about me being able to put out music. She cares that I’m able to participate in my own career. Our conversations are unlike any other conversations I have had with any other label person.”
With a new record label comes a new chapter for Johnson, and he’s kicking off this era by releasing his very first song under Warner Music Nashville.
Jamey Johnson Releases “Someday When I’m Old”
On Friday, October 4, Jamey Johnson released his brand-new song, “Someday When I’m Old.” In a video posted to his Instagram, Johnson shared that the song has been meaningful to him ever since he recorded the demo back in 2004.
Johnson hasn’t put out a new album in over ten years. However, with his signing to a new label and the recent release of several new songs, fans can seemingly look forward to the chance of him releasing a project soon.
This fresh start definitely has many excited about what could be next for the country star.
