To make the final shows truly unforgettable, Chesney went all out, featuring a special performance with Zac Brown, who opened for him during the Saturday show. As the evening went on, Chesney and Brown performed several duets, and at one point, they took a moment to address the crowd before playing a Jimmy Buffett song to honor the late music icon.
“It’s been almost a year that me and Zac— well, not just me and Zac, all of us, [the] world — lost a really great songwriter, singer/songwriter that touched us all with his heart, touched us all with his music,” Chesney said.
“It only felt fitting tonight, Zac and I stand up here and pay tribute to our hero, can we do that for you tonight?,” he asked the audience before the two broke out into a performance of “Come Monday.”
Legendary singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett passed away on September 1, 2023, at the age of 76, at his New York residence. He had been privately battling Merkel-cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer, for four years.
About Jimmy Buffett’s “Come Monday”
“Come Monday” became a staple at Buffett’s concerts over the years since its released. Originally appearing on his 1974 album Living & Dying in ¾ Time, the song was written for his future wife, Jane, while he was on tour. Though it wasn’t a chart-topping hit, reaching No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, it has always remained a fan favorite.
“Come Monday, it’ll be all right / Come Monday, I’ll be holdin’ you tight / I spent four lonely days in a brown L.A haze / And I just want you back by my side / I spent four lonely days in a brown LA haze / And I just want you back by my side”
