Kid Rock’s Version Of “‘Til You Can’t” Features A New Verse About Jesus

Kid Rock closed out the Turning Point USA All-American Halftime Show in February with two songs. First, he delivered a rousing performance of 1999’s “Bawitdaba.”

Then, the tone shifted, and he reintroduced himself by his real name, Robert Ritchie, before launching into a performance of “‘Til You Can’t.”

“‘Til You Can’t” was written by Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers and was originally recorded by country star Cody Johnson. The song topped both of Billboard’s country charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 2023.

The track has since been certified 6x Platinum by the RIAA.

Speaking to listeners during the All-American Halftime Show, Kid Rock said the song was “one of the greatest written songs that I’ve heard in a long time.”

One day, he felt like “somebody” was telling him that the song needed another verse, so he wrote one.

“There’s a book that’s sitting in your house somewhere,
That could use some dusting off.
There’s a man who died for all our sins,
Hanging from the Cross.
You can give your life to Jesus,
And he’ll give you a second chance,
‘Til you can’t.”

The studio recording of Kid Rock’s version of “‘Til You Can’t” was released on February 9. That recording became a #1 hit on the Hot Christian Songs chart.

Additionally, it peaked at #14 on the Hot Country Songs chart and reached #9 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

Kid Rock Honors His Friends, Family, Fans, & Faith In New Music Video For “‘Til You Can’t”

Now, three months after the recording’s release, Kid Rock has a music video for his version of “‘Til You Can’t.”

He surprised fans by unveiling the video on Wednesday, May 13.

This song – and now video, means more to me than most will ever know,” he wrote in a post he shared on social media. “There was no way to include everyone I love who has been so important in my life, so apologies in advance if anyone feels left out – just know I love you all and dearly miss all of you who are no longer with us. God Is Good.”

The video, which is just over 5 minutes long, shows Rock performing in a rustic barn setting. The sun shines through a Cross-shaped window above Rock’s head, bathing him and the room in a warm glow.

Rock, dressed in jeans, a button-up shirt, a cowboy hat, and sunglasses, sits on a stool and strums his guitar as he sings.

He gave the video a personal touch by including holographic images of his friends, family, and fans, which play around him throughout the song. Many of the images feature his son, Robert James Ritchie Jr., and his granddaughter, Skye.

Then, the video gets even more personal as Ritchie dives into the verse he wrote about Jesus. He removes his sunglasses and hat, and kneels in front of a Bible placed on the same stool he had been sitting on moments ago.

He brings the song to a powerful conclusion, and the room darkens, with the only light coming through the Cross-shaped window in the room.
