“God Bless The U.S.A.” Proves Its Status As A Timeless Song

Lee Greenwood’s iconic patriotic hit, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” has been certified 2x Platinum…exactly 40 years after its release.

Greenwood wrote “God Bless the U.S.A.” entirely on his own. He released the track as a single in 1984, and it reached the 7th spot on the Hot Country Songs chart.

“God Bless the U.S.A.” reentered the chart in 2001 following the 9/11 attacks. It peaked at the 16th spot and claimed the same position on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

The song made another chart appearance in 2020, reaching the #1 spot on the U.S. Digital Songs Sales chart.

“God Bless the U.S.A.” has experienced a resurgence in popularity in 2024, surely due to its use throughout Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Greenwood performed the song at multiple events, including the RNC. He also sang upon Trump’s return to Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of his first assassination attempt.

Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The U.S.A” Earns 2x Platnium Certification From The RIAA

Now, shortly after Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States, Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” has reached an incredible milestone. On Thursday (November 7), the RIAA certified the song 2x Platinum.

A single must sell a total of 1 million units to be certified Platinum. Each subsequent Platinum certification is issued every time a single sells an additional 1 million units.

The RIAA states, “Each permanent digital download counts as 1 Unit for certification purposes. 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams will count as 1 Unit for certification purposes.”

“God Bless the U.S.A.” earned its first Platinum certification in 2015. Now, as Greenwood celebrates the 40th anniversary of the song’s release, it is 2x Platinum.

Greenwood recently released a rock version of “God Bless the U.S.A.” with singer Drew Jacobs. The duo’s remake was an immediate success, claiming the #1 spot on the iTunes Rock chart.

At the time of this writing, the song still sits at #1 on the iTunes Rock chart and also tops the all-genre iTunes chart. Greenwood’s original rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” sits at #5 on the all-genre iTunes chart.
