Little Big Town Joins The Oak Ridge Boys For Performance of “Elvira” at the Opry
on Aug 21, 2024
During an evening at the Grand Ole Opry, Little Big Town took the stage with the Oak Ridge Boys to perform their iconic hit, “Elvira.”
The Oak Ridge Boys released “Elvira” in 1981, and it has since become their signature song. The tune is so iconic that many country artists cover it during their own shows, including Little Big Town, who have been singing it at their concerts for many years.
So, naturally, when both Little Big Town and the Oak Ridge Boys were scheduled to perform at the Grand Ole Opry on the same night (August 20), it only made sense for the two quartets to join together and give the audience an incredible rendition of “Elvira.”
This wasn’t the first time Little Big Town and the Oak Ridge Boys sang “Elvira” together.
Back in 2015, during the Opry’s 90th birthday celebration show, Little Big Town was performing on stage when they made a surprise announcement, inviting the Oak Ridge Boys to join them. The audience erupted into cheers and applause as the two groups came together for the special performance.
After 43 years, The Oak Ridge Boys have released their first-ever music video for “Elvira.”
Although “Elvira” is one of the biggest songs in the Oak Ridge Boys’ decades-long career, the quartet never made a music video for it—until now.
The reason the song never had a music video is because “Elvira” was released two years before the first country music cable TV network launched. But in 2023, the Oak Ridge Boys finally filmed a video for it at John Rich’s popular Redneck Riviera bar in downtown Nashville.
This was also the band’s final video before longtime member Joe Bonsall passed away on July 9, 2024, at the age of 76. Bonsall, who had been with the band for over 50 years, retired at the beginning of 2024 due to his battle with ALS. Sadly, a few months later, he passed away due to complications from the disease after a four-year struggle.
