The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are searching for the person who killed 37-year-old military veteran Joshua Mitchell who was standing in his own driveway when he was gunned down.
Police said the tragic event happened on December 17th at Joshua’s home in Douglasville off of Warrenton Drive. 911 received several calls from neighbors reporting hearing multiple gunshots popping off in the area when the incident went down.
When they drove out to the area, unfortunately, they found Joshua shot dead in his driveway. The news devastated the family, including his wife Nicole Mitchell, and his three stepdaughters.
His youngest stepdaughter, age seven, wrote a letter to Santa telling him that she misses her daddy and asked that Santa allow Mitchell to come back home for Christmas.
Part of the letter said, “I love my dad. Someone [hurt] my dad. I want God to bring him back. I getting good grades and I be good at school. I don’t want to celebtate our birthday. We have the same birthday.”
“The fact that it happened before Christmas will always be a conversation of ‘when we lost daddy,’” Nicoele told 11 Alive. “She said ‘I’m good in school, I make good grades, can I please have my daddy back?’”
His wife said that Mitchell was an entrepreneur and an “honorable Marine.”
“I’m glad that that morning before he left off to work – we got to say those words to each other,” she added. “So that will forever be in my brain – his kiss and I love you.”
Police are currently searching for the killers and noted that GBI still doesn’t have any information at this point as to who might have had a motive in doing this.
They are asking anyone with information that can pinpoint the killer to please step forward and contact the GBI and Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
