President Trump Addresses Concerns Over Iranian Assassination Schemes

President Donald Trump appears not to be concerned over reports that Iran has plotted his assassination.

Last November, the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed that they successfully intercepted a plot by Iranian officials to kill Trump before the election. A criminal complaint filed in September asserted that an official in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps asked Iranian immigrant Farhad Shakeri to “focus on surveilling, and, ultimately, assassinating” the politician.

According to the DOJ, Shakeri was deported roughly 17 years ago after serving 14 years in prison for robbery. Authorities allege that the man was tasked with killing President Trump in October of last year. He is believed to be living in Iran currently and has not yet been apprehended.

Additionally, an intelligence report revealed that attempts on Trump’s life would likely continue regardless of the election outcome. Trump and high-level officials have required increased protection after ordering the 2020 strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.

Donald Trump Sends A Strong Warning To Iran

On Tuesday, February 4th, President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing maximum pressure on Tehran, the capital city and administrative center of Iran.

“I’m signing this, and it’s a very powerful document, but hopefully we’re not going to have to use it,” said Trump.

When asked what might happen should Iran carry out an assassination, Trump responded:

“That would be a terrible thing for them to do, and not because of me. If they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end – I’ve left instructions.

President Trump emphasized that should Iran’s actions result in retaliation from the U.S., “there won’t be anything left.” Finally, the 47th president concludes:

“If that happens to a leader, or close to a leader, frankly… you would call for total obliteration of the state that did it. That would include Iran.”
