Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only child, a daughter, was born in 1968. Lisa Marie Presley was only 4-years-old when her parents divorced and 9 when her famous father died. The Elvis heir took on the responsibility of preserving her father’s legacy, and as a result spent all of her life in the spotlight.
When Lisa Marie died of a small bowel obstruction in January 2022, the world grieved her death. Just two days prior she had walked the red carpet and attended the Golden Globe Awards in support of the movie Elvis, a biopic about her father’s life. Fans watching could tell that Lisa Marie wasn’t herself, but it was tough to pinpoint what the problem might be.
“I did know there was something not right,” Priscilla said before sharing that she and her daughter had gone to the Chateau Marmont to celebrate Austin Butler’s Golden Globe win for his portrayal of Elvis.
“We had just gotten there, you go down all these stairs,” Priscilla told the Hollywood Reporter. “I tripped a little bit because I had these high heels on, and she started laughing so hard. I started laughing. We hadn’t even had a drink yet. She goes, ‘Oh my God, Mom, you can’t even have a drink.’ … It was fun, a fun memory. Then we sat down and ordered drinks, and she says, ‘Mom, my stomach hurts really bad.’ We immediately got up and left.”

Two days later, Priscilla received a phone call that Lisa Marie had been taken to the hospital.
“I got right in the car, but she was already gone,” Priscilla recalled. “I still can’t believe it. I don’t wish this on any mother.”
TMZ was the first to report that paramedics were called to Presley’s Calabasas, California, home after she was found unresponsive due to “full cardiac arrest.” Danny Keough, Lisa Marie’s ex-husband, reportedly performed CPR until paramedics arrived. She was transported to the hospital where she later died.

Priscilla Presley confirmed her daughter’s death in a statement that read:
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known,” Priscilla Presley wrote. “We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
