On the Emmy Awards red carpet, Riley Keough spoke with Variety about finalizing the memoir that her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, began before she died. Riley revealed that Lisa Marie had been working on the memoir for 3-4 years and that finishing it was something that Riley “felt she needed to do for her.” She continued:

“It’s very bittersweet and I’m happy to be able to do that for her. And I feel honored to be able to help.”

The interviewer from Variety asked Riley to share more about what it was like to read a draft of the words written by her mother. She responds:

“It’s extremely emotional and also very therapeutic. It makes me feel very close to her. So it’s kind of, again, bittersweet and difficult, but also very special.”

Remembering Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2023 from complications arising from a bowel obstruction as well as “other significant conditions.” She was 54 years old when she died. Now a year later, her daughter is stepping in to be her voice and tell the story that Lisa Marie is no longer able to tell herself. When the memoir was initially announced, Riley shared in a statement:

“Few people had the opportunity to know who my mom really was, other than being Elvis’s daughter. I was lucky to have had that opportunity and working on preparing her autobiography for publication has been a privilege, albeit a bittersweet one.”
