Taylor Swift Channels John Dutton With “Yellowstone” Quote In Hall of Fame Speech
on Jun 12, 2026

Who knew that Taylor Swift was a Yellowstone fan?
On Thursday (June 11), 36-year-old Swift became the youngest woman to ever be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her class also included Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, Kenny Loggins, Alanis Morissette, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, and Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of KISS.
According to Variety, Swift delivered a 21-minute speech at the induction ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. She devoted a large portion of her speech to her family, saying, “…even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for [supporting her dreams by moving to Nashville]. You’re the reason I’m here tonight.”
Later in her speech, Swift recited a famous quote from Season 2, Episode 9 of Yellowstone. The line was said by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) to his son Kayce (Luke Grimes).
“Allow me to now make a hard pivot and pull out a quote I love from the show ‘Yellowstone,'” Swift said before speaking with a slight drawl. “‘…It’s the one constant in life, son. You build something worth having, somebody’s gonna try to take it.'”
In John Dutton’s case, he was talking about his family’s ranch. But Swift pulled in the quote to illustrate the value of a songwriter’s self-worth, peace of mind, and creative vision.
“If you make anything awesome, someone out there is bound to say horrible things about it or twist what you meant into something completely unrecognizable to you,” she said.
“What I hope you discover is this: You can be sensitive but also durable, and you can accept that feedback and skepticism and criticism are inevitable. You can take what’s useful or constructive from that information and leave out what’s simply damaging to your creativity. No one does or should make art that appeals to everyone everywhere all the time.”

Taylor Swift Eyes Return To The Country Airplay Chart
Taylor Swift’s career started in country music before she transitioned to pop. Recently, she returned to her country roots with the release of her new song “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which is featured on the soundtrack for Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5.
The song, co-written by Swift and her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, was inspired by Jessie, the cowgirl doll introduced in the Toy Story franchise’s second film.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once,” Swift wrote on X (formerly Twitter) upon the song’s release.

According to Billboard, “I Knew It, I Knew You” drew 41.8 million in all-format radio airplay audience from June 5-10. Its numbers and trajectory suggest it’s poised for a Top 10 debut on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
This would be significant because it’s been 13 years since Swift had a Top 10 song on the Country Airplay chart. Stay tuned to see if the song accomplishes that feat, and give it a listen in the video below.
