on May 13, 2024
With only one week left until The Voice‘s Season 25 finale, the nine semi-finalists performed hometown tribute performances on Monday night.
The field of nine The Voice competitors will be cut to five this week, adding pressure to an already intense season packed with talent. One vocalist who has garnered a great deal of attention this season is Karen Waldrup, a 37-year-old Louisiana native.

Waldrup first wowed the coaches with her cover of Jo Dee Messina’s “Bye Bye” during her Blind Audition. Dan + Shay nabbed the singer for their team after using their only block to prevent Karen from joining Team Reba. The choice has paid off for first-time coaches Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. Week after week, Karen has delivered consistently flawless performances of covers from the likes of Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack, Lainey Wilson, and more.
It’s been clear that Karen Waldrup’s years of pursuit of her dream are paying off big time. Her confidence has been unshakeable, and the coaches have praised her stage presence numerous times throughout the competition.
Monday night’s (May 13) performance was no exception. Karen Waldrup took the stage to perform another impressive country cover, this time as a tribute to her hometown of Mandeville, Louisiana. She sang Sugarland’s 2011 Grammy Award-winning hit, “Stay.”
“Stay” was written solely by Jennifer Nettles and won “Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” and “Best Country Song” at the 51st Grammy Awards. It has long been considered one of the best songs of Nettles’ career, making it a gutsy move for Karen Waldrup to take it on during the competition.
Will it be enough to earn her a spot in next week’s finale? America will have the chance to vote overnight and the Top 5 will be revealed during Tuesday’s semi-final results show.
