“Don’t Let The Old Man In” Was Inspired By A Conversation With Clint Eastwood

Fans were surprised to learn that a casual conversation with Clint Eastwood is what inspired Toby Keith to write the poignant song. In 2017, Keith and Eastwood shared a cart at a charity golf tournament in Pebble Beach, California. Keith was in awe of the then-88-year-old’s energy and desire to keep working, and asked Eastwood how he does it:

“He said, ‘I just get up every morning and go out. And I don’t let the old man in,’” Keith recalled. “And I thought, I’m writing that.”
