Since Aug. 27, the Trump administration has had a significant vacancy at the White House: the White House press secretary.

Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s final day as the spokesperson of the White House was on Aug. 27.

Now, on Oct. 9, a new press secretary has been selected, according to The New York Times, which cites two anonymous individuals familiar with the matter.

Spoiler: it isn’t Luke Bryan, who recently visited the White House.

According to the Times‘ report, Katie Zacharia has been selected to serve as the new press secretary at the White House.

Zacharia, who is 42, is presently serving as communications adviser to Trump Media and Technology Group, which runs President Donald Trump‘s social media platform, Truth Social.

She is a former lawyer, and served briefly as spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security from February until March of this year, the BBC noted.

Further, she is a frequent conservative commentator on Fox News and Newsmax.

However, Fox News reports that it is not yet clear if she has accepted the role, reporting instead that she has simply been “offered” the position.

The White House, Trump, or Katie Zacharia have not yet offered comment to the press as of publishing time on Oct. 9.

If she accepts the position, she will begin her tenure as press secretary within the final month leading up to the midterm election.

This is a developing story.

Zacharia Will Follow In The Shoes Of Past Press Secretaries Under Trump

While Trump has been in his second term as president, Karoline Leavitt has been the sole official press secretary, so far.

Leavitt — who was the youngest press secretary, having started at age 27 — concluded her role as press secretary after giving birth on May 1 to her second child, Viviana, saying in an Aug. 12 post on X:

“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary — and that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life.”

During Trump’s first term as president, his only male press secretary was his first, Sean Spicer, who served from January until July of 2017.

From 2017 to 2019, Sarah Huckabee Sanders served as press secretary before running for and being elected governor of Arkansas in 2023.

Stephanie Grisham served as press secretary from July 2019 to April 2020, but held no press conferences.

Lastly, Kayleigh McEnany concluded Trump’s first term as press secretary.
