Video: Bear Sneaks Up On Man Sleeping By His Pool

Matt Bete from Greenfield, Massachusetts dozed off, sleeping beside his pool in the backyard when a black bear snuck up on him.
His wife Dawn was gone when it happened but she shared the footage of it on Facebook on Sunday, September 13th, 2020. The footage was recorded by their security camera system installed at their backdoor.
The video shows Matt sleeping in a lawn chair beside the pool when the bear walks onto the scene. At first, the animal goes straight to the water to get a drink and touch it with its paws, but then he diverts its attention to Matt passed out in the chair.
The bear walks over and sniffs the man before giving his foot a light paw swipe to see if he’s alive. That wakes Matt up and he quickly sits up in the chair which scares the bear into running a few feet away. Matt pulls out his phone to either call someone or record the encounter as the bear begins to walk back towards him.
“He wasn’t sure how he should react but knew he couldn’t get up that fast,” Dawn wrote on Facebook. “But at least he had another chair and table between them if needed. Luckily it went running out soon after the encounter.”
