For the third time this season, American Idol has had a contestant self-eliminate.

First came Sara Beth, the 25-year-old mom, who left the competition during Hollywood Week. At the time, she said, “This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance, because my heart’s at home. So, I’m going to get home to my babies. They kind of need me.”

The second contestant who self-eliminated was Kaya Stewart, who grew ill during Hollywood Week and wasn’t able to rehearse enough, leaving her duet partner to sing alone. Luckily, a contestant volunteered to help her out, but she was still emotional.

As the competition was narrowed down to the Top 26, Idol traveled to Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii. At the start of the episode, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that someone had dropped out so the group was now the Top 25, but in a surprising move, they brought back singer Paige Anne to replace the contestant who left. They did not name the person and fans were curious who it was.

The contestant spoke out on social media revealing he did drop out of the show after making it to the Top 26. His name is Beckett McDowell, who has actually never even shown on TV this season.

According to E! News, said in an Instagram Story, “To all of you wondering,  yes I was on @americanidol and I made the top 26. I’m not going to say why I didn’t decided to continue in the competition but what I will say is that it was my choice.. I am forever grateful to my @americanidol family and I will always look back at the experience with the utmost gratitude and fondness.”

We wish Becket nothing but the best. He was very talented so we’re sure this is only the beginning of his music career!
