Affidavit Reveals New Details About Chris Young’s Arrest
on Jan 23, 2024
Country star Chris Young was arrested Monday night (Jan. 22) after a run-in with police at a Nashville bar. A newly-released affidavit reveals more details about the arrest.
What started out as a casual evening for Chris Young turned into an arrest and brief jail time for the star. According to the arrest affidavit, Young was enjoying a drink at Tin Roof, a “live music joint” in midtown Nashville that also serves food and drinks. Agents from the Alcoholic Beverage Commission entered the establishment to perform identification checks on patrons, and Young complied.
“When we walked into the bar a man sitting at the bar, later found to be Mr. Young, had his ID in his hand above his head,” the affidavit states.
The agent handed the ID back to Young and joined his fellow agents. At this time, Chris started asking the authorities questions, which they reportedly answers, and began videotaping them.
After concluding their identification checks at Tin Roof, the agents went next door to The Dawg House to conduct another compliance check. Chris and some of his friends followed. While the authorities were checking the establishment’s ABC cards, Young began talking to patrons and the bartender. (NOTE: ABC cards are licenses “designed to ensure that all persons serving and selling alcohol have a basic set of facts.”)
After checks were complete, the agents moved to leave, but were stopped by Young.
“While walking to the door, Mr. Young put his hands out to stop me from leaving the bar and struck me on the shoulder,” the officer said, adding that he responded by pushing Young to put some distance between them.
“Once that happened, most of the patrons of the bar got up and got between TABC agents and Mr. Young and began yelling and screaming,” the affidavit reads.
Another agent reportedly began “trying to talk to Mr. Young” who declined to comply with orders. Two officers physically detained the singer and put him in handcuffs. As the agents attempted to leave the bar, people that were with Chris “started following agents and making the incident hostile.” The agent added that Chris Young’s eyes were bloodshot and “watery” and his speech was slurred.
