Howdy, I’m Grant, a multimedia storyteller and lover of the arts. Whether it’s Aaron Copland’s ballet Rodeo or Sam Peckinpah’s iconic Western Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, I have an appreciation for works that engage with the American mythos. Covering news, I help tell the stories that define our shared tomorrow.
Writing primarily on film history, I’ve been a published writer since 2015.
That same year, I earned a BFA in Film from Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in Nashville, Tennessee, and I went on to earn my MA in Film & Media Studies from Columbia University in New York in 2018. While at Columbia, I wrote my graduate thesis on the systematic Christian theology of John Calvin in relation to secular cinema.
Had it not been for Emmylou Harris’ album Elite Hotel, which I listened to on loop while working on my thesis, I may have never graduated…
My work in news began in 2022, working as a county government reporter for the Cleveland Daily Banner.
While there, I earned numerous distinctions from the Tennessee Press Association for my reporting, including 5th place in 2023 for Best Single Feature; 2nd place in 2024 for Best Education Reporting; and 1st place in 2025 for Best Education Reporting and Public Service, in addition to the newspaper winning the General Excellence Award for the very first time.
As of April 2025, I’ve been reporting for Country Rebel, and I couldn’t be happier.
Growing up as the son of a Baptist minister in the South, Western culture has always been a part of my life.
Watching a copious amount of Gunsmoke and Bonanza reruns as a kid led me to a lifelong passion for Westerns, with my favorite Western films including the aforementioned Peckinpah film, as well as Nicholas Ray’s Johnny Guitar, Raoul Walsh’s Colorado Territory, and Fritz Lang’s Rancho Notorious.
The soundtrack to my days writing includes Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, and Morgan Wallen.
My wife, Alaynna, and I are the proud parents of a toddler, named Remi, and we’re excited to see her grow in life and in her walk with the Lord.
