Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach release powerful duet in support of mental health awareness
Earlier this month, Carrie Underwood joined forces with rock band Papa Roach to release a duet version of the band’s poignant song “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark).” Underwood and Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix combined their talents to shine a powerful light on those who struggle with mental health.
Shaddix reflected on the experience:
“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session, we were blown away. Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a ‘Rock Star’ bring life to this track with us.”
Underwood shared:
“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them. It’s a beautiful song, and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”

“Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” tops two Rock charts
The new collaborative version of “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” debuted in the number one spot on both the Rock Digital Song Sales and Alternative Digital Song Sales charts. Although Underwood has tallied up more than a dozen country number-one hits, this is her first time appearing on and topping the rock charts.
All royalties from the song will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
When the original version of the song was released in 2022, it was quickly recognized for its powerful lyrics and became an anthem for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This time around, Underwood and Papa Roach committed their continued support to the organization and have pledged that all royalties from this collaboration will go to the foundation in perpetuity.
