Carrie Underwood Returns To Sing The Sunday Night Football Theme “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night”
Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is back as the voice of the SNF opener. Underwood and Sunday Night Football recently confirmed that she is returning to perform the opening theme for the 12th consecutive season.

The SNF opener has undergone a few changes since Underwood started singing it in 2013. Last year (2023), she resumed singing the classic “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” theme, which is based on Joan Jett‘s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
When SNF and Underwood first announced her return, they did’n’t explicitly state if the “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” theme would be used for the 2024-2025 NFL season. But Underwood seemingly confirmed that fact in a statement quoted in a press release from NBC Sports:
“It was so much fun to welcome the Sunday Night Football team back to the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas,” Underwood said. “Shooting the new show open is always something I look forward to, and Tripp and the whole creative team brought it yet again, and we had a great day putting on an exciting new performance. Like everybody else, I’m waiting all day for Sunday night!”
Resorts World Las Vegas is the home of Underwood’s Reflection residency. Last season’s SNF opener was also filmed at the resort.
NBC Sports states that this season’s SNF opener:
“…celebrates the SNF ‘road show’ that visits NFL cities each weekend, embracing the pageantry and anticipation for each matchup.”

Fans got their first look at Underwood’s new SNF opener in a teaser that aired during the Patriots—Commanders preseason game on Sunday (August 25). The teaser confirmed that Underwood sings “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” in the opener.
The 24-second clip shows Underwood in a photo shoot before she makes her way onstage in a metallic silver outfit. Cheerleaders accompany her onstage as she sings for the excited audience in the venue.
Underwood’s performance footage is mixed with clips of the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions, who face off on Sunday, September 8. This season’s full SNF opener will debut before that game.
