Dale Earnhardt Jr. released a statement on Twitter saying that after the JRM Motorsports team got back from their weekend in Las Vegas, they found a possum hiding in the engine compartment of one of their cars.

According to the team, the possum decided to hitch a ride somewhere between Las Vegas and North Carolina while the car was being towed on the NASCAR hauler.

If it got into the car while in Las Vegas, that’s certainly a very long ride for North America’s only marsupial to be traveling. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the folks on his team found the animal as they were inspecting the vehicle and thought the surprise was quite funny.

“The JRM teams unloaded the cars from Vegas today and found a possum in the engine bay of one of the cars. I kid you not,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. wrote on Twitter.

They are not sure what attracted the possum to the engine bay of the Xfinity Series race car but the only thing they could think of is maybe the engine was still warm and it found the space a nice place to sleep.

The Las Vegas weekend was a huge weekend for the JR Motorsports crew. Berry driving his No. 8 Chevy came across the finish line in the first place while Noah Gragson and Justin Allgaier finished 2nd and 3rd.

Sam Mayer, also on with the JR Motorsports crew finished 7th and these four drivers stacked up a total of 186 points combined. They will be qualified to have at least one of the drivers in the Championship 4 after Berry’s win.
