President Trump Signs New Executive Order Regarding DOGE

On Tuesday, February 11, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to work with federal agencies to reduce jobs and limit hiring within the federal government, according to a White House facts sheet referenced by CBS

The order will require agencies to implement “large-scale reductions” of their current staffing and hire for only “essential positions.”

DOGE is a temporary organization established by Trump through an executive order on January 20, 2025. Its purpose is to cut wasteful federal spending, uncover fraud, and eliminate excessive regulations.

Elon Musk Joins President Trump In The Oval Office

Following Trump’s signing of the new order, billionaire Elon Musk, who is serving as the head of the organization, joined the President in the Oval Office the same day to discuss their strategy behind this move.

During the conversation, the SpaceX CEO stated that reducing federal expenses was “not optional” but “essential.”

“The people voted for major government reform and that’s what the people are going to get,” Musk said.

While taking questions from the media, Musk and Trump also discussed findings of what they claimed were instances of “fraud” within the federal government. However, they did not provide specific evidence or elaborate on the details of these allegations.

Trump told reporters that these alleged discoveries amounted to “billions of dollars in abuse, incompetence and corruption.”

Another moment that caught viewers’ attention was a statement from Musk about the wealth of government officials. He said one of DOGE’s priorities under its newly granted authority would be to investigate individuals in government whose net worth appears significantly higher than what their current pay in their positions would reasonably allow.

“There are quite a few people in the bureaucracy who have ostensibly a salary of a few hundred thousand dollars but somehow managed to accrue tens of millions of dollars in net worth,” he said. “They seem to mysteriously get wealthy, and we don’t know why…Where does it come from?”

Before Musk’s statement, Trump stated that they were aware of a government employee who had amassed $30 million despite being on federal salary. But, he did not name the individual. It also hasn’t been confirmed how DOGE has been granted access to official numbers regarding federal employees’ annual pay.
