Emmy Russell Speaks Out After Being Eliminated From ‘American Idol’

Emmy Russell, the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, has been one of the most talked about contestants on this season of American Idol.

Singer/songwriter Emmy Russell first caught the attention of American Idol judges and viewers during her audition. She sang a raw, original song titled “Skinny,” which reflects on her struggles with body image and an eating disorder.

After that, she soared through the different rounds of the show, continuously impressing with a mixture of original songs and covers. This week, Emmy performed as one of the top five contestants during the show’s semi-final round.

Emmy Russell performs two songs during “Disney Night” on American Idol 

Emmy took the Idol stage twice during the semi-finals to showcase her talent, hoping to earn enough votes to move on to the finale. During the show’s annual “Disney Night,” contestants must choose songs from Disney’s vast and admired catalog.

First, Emmy wowed with a cover of “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. Watch it below! 

Later in the show, Emmy returned to perform Brandi Carlile’s “Carried Me With You” from the Disney movie Onward. The judges commended Emmy for her performance and praised her growth since they first met her. Watch the performance below! 

Sadly, these were the last two performances of Emmy Russell’s American Idol journey. She did not advance to the next round of competition and was eliminated.

Emmy Russell responds to her American Idol elimination

The day after her time on American Idol came to an end, Emmy Russell posted a video to social media to share her thoughts and express gratitude for the experience. She begins by thanking her followers for all the love and the votes and adds:

“Before I got eliminated, I really felt like God told me – he was like, ‘Emmy, you’re not going to be chosen by America, but I chose you.'”

She includes a reminder for anyone who is chasing their dreams:

“You can be yourself and be successful. Don’t run from rejection or pain, and facing hard things.” 

Ultimately, Emmy expresses that she is at peace not being chosen to move forward on the show because she knows that she is chosen and loved by God.
