Cody Johnson Is Gearing Up To Release A New Album In June

On Thursday (April 16), Cody Johnson surprised his fans by announcing the release date for his next album. Titled Banks of the Trinity, the record is slated for a June 26th debut.

Writing on Instagram, the reigning CMA Male Vocalist of the Year explained how the album’s title came to be:

“When I heard the song ‘Banks Of The Trinity’ for the first time, it was like a portrait flashed in my head of memories I thought I’d forgotten. It took me straight back home to Sebastopol, Texas, where I grew up on the river.”

Johnson chose a photo of Lawrence’s Grocery Store for the album’s cover.

He shared fond memories of riding his bike to visit the store as a child, where he’d buy a cream soda and an ice cream bar along with his family’s groceries. Oftentimes, Johnson would stick around to listen to “the old men” chat before he’d ride his bike home.

“This record is my way of going back to those dirt roads,” he said. “I can’t wait for you to come with me on that journey back.”

Banks of the Trinity is the follow-up to Johnson’s highly acclaimed ninth studio album, Leather. That project won the CMA Award for Album of the Year in 2024.

Johnson told Billboard that his new record features collaborations with Luke Combs and Brothers Osborne, titled “Shoot the Bull” and “Fool Proof.”

But first, fans get to hear one of Johnson’s new solo tracks, a sweet, tender love song called “I Want You.”

“I Want You,” the first single from Johnson’s Banks of the Trinity, was released on Friday (April 17th). It’s a certified country love song, with mesmerizing lyrics about the narrator’s devotion to the special someone in his life.

The narrator reassures his sweetheart that he always wants her, even when times are tough or she may not be feeling her “best.”

As Johnson sings at one point:

“I want you in your blue jeans,
And in your goin’ downtown dress.
I want you when you’re perfect,
Or in a perfect mess.
I want you when you’re healin’,
And when you’re broke in two.
I want you.”

There’s no doubt that Johnson had his beautiful wife, Brandi, in mind while singing “I Want You.” The couple has been married since 2008 and they share three children: daughters Clara Mae and Cori, and son Jaycee.

While speaking with Billboard, Johnson shared how his relationship with his wife (and with God) has changed in the past few years…for the better.

“It was really giving it over to God. It helped me find peace,” he said. “And my wife and I, two years ago, we went to marriage counseling and really tried to dig into our marriage, and that gave me peace. We’re so freakin’ happy now.”

That happiness shines through in Johnson’s brand-new single, “I Want You,” which you can listen to in the video below.
