A Stand-Out Song On The Album Is “Softly And Tenderly”

The song’s arrangement is much different from the majority of Underwood’s past singles, but the music’s simplicity allows the star’s vocal range to shine. Underwood’s voice remains controlled throughout most of the song, and she saves some of her more elaborate notes for the end.

“Softly and Tenderly” was released on February 12th, ahead of the album’s release.

This Wasn’t The First Time Carrie Underwood Performed This Song

In 2017, Underwood performed “Softly and Tenderly” as a soundtrack for the CMA Awards and memorably teared up towards the song’s end. Underwood’s performance honored the victims involved in the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.

In a behind the scenes video, Carrie explained why she chose to include “Softly and Tenderly” on My Savior.

“I sang Softly and Tenderly on CMAs a few years back for a very somber moment, an in memoriam moment. It felt like at the time, that song just brought a lot of healing into the room,” she explained. “I wanted to include it on this project just to have it in a more done way. So we decided to include it on this and hopefully it’ll continue to bring healing to people who need it.”
