On Wednesday, August 21, the ACM Honors took place at the iconic Ryman Auditorium.

Some of the most talented people in country music gathered in Nashville for the 17th Academy of Country Music Honors, which celebrates those who have made significant contributions to the industry. This year, the honorees included Walt Aldridge, Tony Brown, Luke Bryan, Alan Jackson, Shannon Sanders, Lainey Wilson, and Trisha Yearwood.

Carly Pearce and reigning ACM Song of the Year winner Jordan Davis hosted the event. This marked Pearce’s fourth consecutive year as the host.

The first group of performers announced for the event included Eric Church, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Tyler Hubbard, Jamey Johnson, Ashley McBryde, and Keith Urban.

Later this month, the Academy of Country Music added a second round of performers: Lauren Alaina, Terri Clark, Jordan Davis, Jackson Dean, Kameron Marlowe, Carly Pearce, Lee Ann Womack, and Jason Aldean.

Jamey Johnson Sings “Whiskey and You”

One of the night’s highlights was when music icon Jamey Johnson took the stage to deliver an incredible rendition of Chris Stapleton’s “Whiskey and You.”

Tim McGraw was actually the first one to cut the song for his album Let It Go. Eight years later, Chris Stapleton recorded the song for himself, which he released on his debut solo album Traveller.

Jump to 2024, and Jamey Johnson’s powerful ACM Honors performance was the perfect way to offer a nod to Chris Stapleton, who received the ACM’s Artist-Songwriter of the Year Award this year.

As of press time, the ACM has not shared any videos or photos of Jamey’s performance. But stay tuned, because the ceremony will be available for the greater public to watch at a later date.

The 17th Academy of Country Music Honors will air on Tuesday, September 24, at 8 p.m. CT on Merit Street, a television network owned by Dr. Phil. The show will also be available for free streaming on the Merit+ app, according to Billboard, which can be downloaded on iPhone & Android devices, Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

Until then, enjoy the video below of Jamey and Chris singing “In Color” during a show in 2020.
