Yellowstone Fans Worry About The Show’s Future

Yellowstone fans are currently concerned about the fate of the series. Season 5 aired its midseason finale in January, promising to return with the season’s second half this summer.

However, the cast has yet to return to start filming those new episodes. Rumors have been swirling for a long time about behind-the-scenes drama, leading fans to believe the series will be canceled. It’s been alleged that Kevin Costner (who plays John Dutton), wants to devote his time to other projects, taking time away from his Yellowstone filming schedule.

If true, this obviously presents a problem, since Costner plays the series’ lead. Costner’s attorney has denied the rumors about the Yellowstone drama.

Yellowstone Viewers Grow More Concerned After Main Cast Fails To Make Scheduled Appearance

But fans’ concerns grew in early April. The main Yellowstone cast members, including Costner, were scheduled to appear at a panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, California. Show creator Taylor Sheridan was also supposed to appear.

However, only Josh Lucas (young John Dutton), Mo Brings Blenty (Mo), Dawn Olivieri (Sarah Atwood), and Wendy Moniz (Lynelle Perry) appeared at the event. This angered fans, who paid up to $100 per ticket to attend the panel in the hopes of seeing their favorite cast members.

This further fueled fans’ worries that Yellowstone will be canceled.

Keith Cox, the president of development and production at Paramount, tried to address fans’ concerns during the panel. He refrained from providing a clear update on the show’s fate. But according to PEOPLE, he did say:

“What I can say is our star [Costner], the face of our show and the executive producer, are very confident he’s going to continue with our show.”

If Yellowstone Does Continue, Will John Dutton Survive?

However, if the show continues, fans can’t help but wonder if Costner’s time on the show is coming to an end.

Many worry that John will be killed off. That does seem to be the direction the show was heading anyway.

During PaleyFest, Lucas specifically was asked if he thinks Yellowstone could continue without John Dutton at the helm. He said he believes Sheridan “always planned on at some point, having Kevin die and having multiple characters die.

He went on to say:

“And so you know that that’s just … the evolution of what the ranch is. That’s why when you see the cemetery and you see the names of Elsa and you see the names of Jacob and you see these names, I think it’s of course going to evolve and change. And I think that’s what hopefully people will really like as it goes.”

New Report Surfaces Claiming John Dutton Will Die Before Season 5 Ends

Lucas uttered his comments just weeks before a new, unconfirmed report surfaced that John will die once Season 5 returns with its second half.

“The whole team is down in Texas now meeting, and trying to figure out how to do it. I’m sure Taylor Sheridan has it worked out more or less,” an unnamed source allegedly told ShowBizz411. “We all knew Kevin would leave eventually.”

Now fans are surely more anxious than ever to know what the fate of Yellowstone (and John Dutton) will be.
