Jason Aldean will perform a tribute to the late, great Toby Keith during the 59th Annual ACM Awards

The 2024 ACM Awards are gearing up to be a momentous night, with a stellar lineup of performances and fierce competition in the award categories. Today, the excitement has grown as it was just announced that Jason Aldean will perform “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” in memory of country music legend Toby Keith.

Aldean confirmed the news to radio host Katie Neal, who will serve as the red-carpet correspondent for the ACM Awards. He also shared that he plans to put his own spin on the song to create a special moment that he hopes the fans will enjoy.

The ACM Awards will stream live from the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas on Thursday, May 16th at 8pm/7pm central. Tune in via amazon.com/ACMawards to see the performances and see who takes home the trophies!

The evening will be hosted by 16-time ACM Award winner Reba McEntire who will also take the stage to perform her brand new song, “I Can’t.”

Jason Aldean remembers Toby Keith

When news broke of Toby Keith’s tragic passing on February 5th, many stars shared heartfelt tributes to the country music icon. Jason Aldean wrote:

“Just waking up to the news of Toby Keith’s passing. Today is a sad day for Country music and its fans. Toby was a huge presence in our business and someone we all looked up to and respected. You and your music will be forever remembered big man.”

Toby Keith was recently honored at the CMT Music Awards

This will be the second Toby Keith tribute performance at a major country music awards show. The late musician was honored at the CMT Music Awards last month with a collaborative performance involving Brooks & Dunn, Lainey Wilson, and Sammy Hagar. The artists were all accompanied by Toby’s long-time band, adding an extra special element to the evening.

While the tribute received mostly positive accolades, Brooks & Dunn’s performance of “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” received mixed reviews and left many fans wanting more.
