Kevin Costner Delayed The Theatrical Release Of His Second Horizon Movie Following First Film’s Debut In June

Kevin Costner received good news about the second film in his Horizon movie saga.

Costner dreamed of creating an epic Western movie saga like Horizon for years. That dream finally came to fruition, and the first film made its theatrical debut on June 28.

Unfortunately, the Costner-led and directed film did not perform extraordinarily well. It came in third place at the box office over its opening weekend, raking in only $11 million.

Its performance did not improve during its second week in theaters. By then, Horizon slipped to sixth place at the box office, and its total worldwide gross was just over $23 million.

Horizon‘s second chapter was originally slated for release on August 16. But, Costner and the team behind Horizon made the decision to delay the second movie’s release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision was made “in hopes of allowing more time to grow the audience for the first film.

The audience has grown since Horizion‘s first chapter became available to stream at home. Horizon became the #1 film on the VOD (Video on Demand) Top 10 list after being released on platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV+, VUDU, and Google Play.

Costner Shares Good News With His Fans

Costner recently received more good news about Horizon, specifically concerning its second film. On Wednesday (July 31), the former Yellowstone star shared that Horizon: Chapter 2 will premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

He said:

“My dream was always to show @horizonamericansaga Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival. The fact that now they have decided to show Chapter 1 earlier in the day and then the World Premiere of Chapter 2 that evening shows not only their belief in how the two films work together but their support of a director’s vision. I’m indebted to Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey. It is with gratitude and excitement that I return to the Venice Film Festival. Long live the movies and those willing to stand for them.”
