Rumors have been swirling about drama behind the scenes of Yellowstone. The show is currently on its midseason break, with no return date announced.

Deadline reported on February 6 that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is looking to end the main series in its current form. The outlet alleged that Matthew McConaughey was being eyed to star in a new Dutton-centric show.

Deadline cited “sources” that told the outlet Yellowstone star Kevin Costner is the reason for the alleged end of the series as we know it. As Deadline reported:

“Sources tell Deadline that Costner, who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.”

A Paramount Network spokesperson addressed these claims. They told Deadline:

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

On February 21, Puck published a report that goes into more detail about the alleged tension behind the scenes of Yellowstone. Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, responded to the outlet’s claims, and they quoted him in their report.

The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season five of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” Singer said. He went on to add, “…anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”

Singer also called the rumors “ridiculous.”

Speaking about Costner’s devotion to Yellowstone, Singer said:

“As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show, and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

These reports come shortly after Costner received a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the series. He was unable to attend the ceremony, so he just recently received his trophy. Costner filmed a video as he unboxed his award at home, and you can watch that video below.
