Lainey Wilson Visits The Tonight Show & Teaches Jimmy Fallon About Her “Squat And Shot” Routine
Country music star Lainey Wilson recently paid a visit to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. They discussed many topics, including her new album, Whirlwind, and Wilson’s past as a Hannah Montana impersonator.
Wilson also taught Fallon her hilarious pre-show ritual, which she calls “squat and shot.”
“Most of the time, I do this thing called ‘holler and swaller,'” she said. “But we’re not doing that. Instead, we’re gonna do this new thing that we started doing called the ’squat and shot.’ OK? So we’re gonna, like, drop it low and then you’re gonna take a shot. And we’re gonna see if you can get back up.”
Lainey Added The “Squat” To Her Pre-Show Ritual After Suffering A Wardrobe Malfunction Earlier This Year
Singers often take a shot or have a drink before a show, so that part of Wilson’s routine didn’t seem unusual to Fallon. But he was curious to know why she does a squat before every show.
“I mean, just to see if, you know, if your pants are good,” Wilson joked.
Wilson, who is known for wearing fun, bell-bottom pants, added the “squat” part to her routine after suffering an onstage wardrobe malfunction a few months ago. The CMA Entertainer of the Year was performing at the Faster Horses Festival in July when she split her pants wide open.
Wilson quickly rushed offstage to change into a spare pair of pants she had on hand.
After the show, Wilson shared a video poking fun at herself. The video shows her doing a series of squats to her song “Hang Tight Honey,” and she captioned it, “adding this into my routine before a show so my britches don’t rip like they did last night at faster horses.”
After teaching Fallon her “squat and shot” routine, Wilson took to the stage to perform one of her new songs, “4x4xU.” You can watch her performance, her interview with Fallon, and her hilarious “squat and shot” demonstration in the videos below.
