Morgan Wallen’s smash hit “Last Night” was streamed more times than any other song on both Spotify and Apple Music.

As 2023 comes to a close, many outlets are taking a look back at the last 12 months in country music. One thing is for sure – Morgan Wallen had an absolutely massive year. Despite being snubbed at the CMA Awards, he was the top-winning artist at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, beating out Taylor Swift. Also according to Billboard, Wallen had the highest-grossing tour of 2023, with the total number of people who attended his shows surpassing 1.3 million.

This week, the two major music streaming platforms, Spotify and Apple Music, announced their most-streamed songs for 2023, globally and across all genres. Claiming the top spot on both lists is none other than Morgan Wallen’s hit single, “Last Night.”

“Last Night” was written by John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, and Ryan Vojtesak. It spent 25 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart this year. In addition, it was Wallen’s first time climbing the Billboard Hot 100 (all-genre) chart, and the single spent 16 weeks in the No. 1 spot.

Wallen’s third studio album, One Thing at A Time, contains a whopping 36 tracks including “Last Night.” The album was preceded by a three-song sampler which was released in December 2022 and spent 16 weeks on top of the charts. The full album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, and according to Billboard charts, was the top country album of 2023. Wallen explained that One Thing at A Time “brings together the musical influences that have shaped him as an artist – country, alternative, and hip-hop.”
