Inside Trump’s Vision for a 250-Foot Triumphal Arch

President Donald Trump has big plans in store for the nation’s landmark 250th year. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed in a press conference on Wednesday (April 15) that the president’s plans for the United States Triumphal Arch would be submitted on Thursday.

The Trump administration worked with the Department of Interior on the project, which plans to have the arch stand 250 feet high, in celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States later this year.

Leavitt described it as “an architectural masterpiece to celebrate our history,” and a “fitting” way to commemorate the milestone anniversary, referred to in short as America 250.

Trump spoke of the arch in January, saying that it would be constructed in the “next two months.” However, this most recent update reveals that the project is still in the early planning stages. Now, Leavitt says construction will begin “this year.” See renderings below.

Additional Details Of The Proposed Arch

If approved, the Triumphal Arch would be constructed in “empty green space” in Memorial Circle on Columbia Island. The part-natural, part-man-made island, also known as Lady Bird Johnson Park, is located on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The island is managed by the National Park Service.

Additionally, the press secretary said that the arch would “be outfitted with beautiful artwork and depictions celebrating the success of the American people over our 250-year history and the enduring triumph of the American spirit.”

She added:

“Great nations build beautiful structures that cultivate national pride and love of country. And this triumphal arch should be a project that all Americans of all political persuasions can support, because it’s a monument for every American to celebrate 250 years of our nation’s proud history.”

What else is in store for the 250th anniversary?

Leavitt closed the press conference with the promise that “many more announcements” would be forthcoming regarding America 250. The White House Task Force created the initiative for a year-long, highly visible national celebration culminating on July 4, 2026.

The plans include a world fair-style celebration to run for up to two weeks in Washington, D.C., around Independence Day with cultural exhibits, performances, and themed days.

Additionally, the president has proposed a UFC fight on the White House lawn and a “Freedom 250 Grand Prix” race in the Capitol. Stay tuned for updates as events and celebrations are confirmed for America 250.
