Louisiana’s Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff Festival Abruptly Cancels
on Aug 08, 2024
Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff Announces Cancellation Less Than 1 Month Before The Event
On Wednesday (August 7), those who were looking forward to attending the 2024 Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff festival in Louisiana received some disappointing news.
The inaugural Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff was a success last year (2023). The lineup included Garth Brooks, Lainey Wilson, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
After seeing how well fans responded to last year’s festival, plans were made to host another event in 2024. The new lineup was announced earlier this year, and fans were excited to see Eric Church, Thomas Rhett, Ashley McBryde, and Jon Pardi perform.
This year’s festival was scheduled for Labor Day weekend, specifically Saturday, August 31. It was to be held at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tickets for the event went on sale in April.
Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley was looking forward to the 2024 production. According to a statement quoted by American Songwriter, he said:
“The first-ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff was a tremendous success and featured one of the largest concert crowds in Superdome history. We’re thrilled this year to welcome four outstanding country music artists to New Orleans for the second annual event. It should be a great show and, given the stature of these artists, will be a nice shot in the arm for the tourism economy.”
However, the festival is not happening now, as it announced its cancellation on Wednesday, less than one month before it was set to take place.
Fans Learned About The Cancellation Through Ticketmaster
Without any explanation, the Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff canceled this year’s festival. Fans learned about the cancellation through Ticketmaster. The festival’s page on Ticketmaster’s website now reads, “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event.”
The page also details how all ticketholders will be refunded for their purchases.
The festival has not posted on X (formerly Twitter) since April. The newest post on its Instagram page is from June. Additionally, its Facebook page has been dormant since October of last year.
One website for the event makes no mention of this year’s canceled show. A message on the site reads:
“Louisiana’s Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff is a music and entertainment event to celebrate the start of the college football season. Stay tuned for news regarding a potential 2025 event.“
We’ll keep you updated if the festival releases a statement explaining the reason for the cancellation.
