Two Yellowstone spin-offs premiered earlier in 2026: Marshals and Dutton Ranch. Marshals is focused on Kayce Dutton, while Dutton Ranch centers on his sister, Beth Dutton, and her husband, Rip Wheeler.

Although Beth and Rip moved to Texas and Kayce stayed in Montana, there has been a lot of talk about reuniting their characters in a crossover episode.

But, as much as the fans, actors, and crew want that to happen, it hasn’t yet. The shows have different production schedules: Marshals is currently airing its second season, while Dutton Ranch hasn’t even started filming its own.

Because of this, Marshals showrunner Spencer Hudnut had to abandon an idea he had for a crossover between the two shows. He told PEOPLE about the episode that fans never got to see, saying:

“We’ve definitely always thought that it would be great to see Kayce with his sister again. Certainly, when I wrote this last year, it was like, ‘Oh, if they go to Texas, what if Kayce and Rip were going to save Tate? That would be awesome.'”

Those who watched the Season 2 premiere of Marshals know that Kayce’s son, Tate, had been kidnapped. But instead of being rescued by Kayce, Beth, and Rip, the Marshals jumped into action to help Kayce save his son.

Will A Dutton Ranch And Marshals Crossover Ever Happen?

Even though his prior plan didn’t pan out, Hudnut believes a crossover between Marshals and Dutton Ranch isn’t off the table. He and the showrunner for Dutton Ranch, Benjamin Cavell, have worked together before, which Hudnut says could make everything “easier.”

They’re just waiting for the schedules to line up, and they didn’t this time.

“They’re such big shows,” Hudnut remarked. “We do so many episodes. They are doing such huge episodes. Things need to be sorted out. But I think both shows would hope to see a reunion at some point for the fans.”

Marshals‘ second season will have 20 episodes, and they’ll keep filming through December. Logan Marshall-Green, who plays Pete “Cal” Calvin on the show, confirmed all of this information during an interview with ScreenRant.

Meanwhile, Dutton Ranch isn’t expected to start production on its second season until early 2027. Kelly Reilly, the actress who plays Beth Dutton, confirmed this fact during the Paramount U.K. upfront event in October, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

We know so many fans are eager to see a crossover between the two shows. Because of that, we’ll be sure to let you know whenever we hear an update!
