For the first time ever, country singer Jordan Davis performed on the CMT Music Awards‘ main stage.

Jordan Davis is a country singer who you might know from his popular singles “Singles You Up,” “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot,” “”What My World Spins Around,” as well as his duet with Luke Bryan, “Buy Dirt.”

He did perform “Buy Dirt” at the 2022 CMT Music Awards, but he was on a small stage off site.

This year will be the first time he has performed on the main stage at the awards show. He will be joined by Christian rock band NEEDTOBREATHE for an incredible performance of “Next Thing You Know.”

NEEDTOBREATHE last appeared at the CMT Music Awards in 2021 when they performed “I Wanna Remember” with Carrie Underwood.

Jordan Davis was nominated for two awards at this year’s CMT Music Awards: Male Video of the Year and Video of the Year.

Although he didn’t make it past the first round of voting for the latter award, it’s still a big honor to be nominated for Video of the Year! For Male Video Of the Year, he was up against Cody Johnson, Bailey Zimmerman, Luke Combs, HARDY, Morgan Wallen, and Jelly Roll.

Although he did not take home any awards, Davis still made history by making his debut on the main stage! He and NEEDTOBREATHE performed “Next Thing You Know” which they likely also performed earlier in the week for their episode of CMT Crossroads.

This wasn’t the first time Davis performed the song live. He also sang it at the 2023 CMA Awards. But Sunday’s performance was unique in that it blended the vocals of Davis with NEEDTOBREATHE lead singer Bear Rinehart. The performance followed a CMT Crossroads taping between the two that took place two days ahead of the awards show.

The 2024 CMT Music Awards marked the second time NEEDTOBREATHE has performed at the event. In 2021 they joined Carrie Underwood for a live performance of “I Wanna Remembert.
