An Ohio woman made a startling discovery on her lunchtime walk down the Great Miami Riverbank.

On Monday, Haley Weidner ventured off the bike path to look at the Great Miami River water levels. It was while she explored the water’s bank that she noticed a strange smell in the air.

“I smelled it first,” Haley explained in a statement to WHIO TV 7

Haley spotted a shark head along the riverbank, but at first, the Ohio native assumed that the remains were fake. Curious, Haley touched the shark with her shoe, and of course, the smell became more intense.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is the real thing … this is a real shark,’” Haley explained.

On Monday evening, The Ohio Department of Natural Resources informed WHIO that “looks as though someone discarded it there … We have seen situations like this before with people discarding shark parts of carcasses after fishing trips to the ocean.”

Later on, Haley confirmed that the person who dumped the shark alongside the river was finally identified. She wrote:

“The owner of the head has been found. This was not, in fact, roaming the waters of the Great Miami waters. You are all safe!”
