Catherine O’Hara Is Known For Her Comedic Roles
O’Hara got her start on the Canadian sketch comedy series, similar to Saturday Night Live, titled Second City Television, which she won her first Emmy for in 1982.
She made her mark on the big screen in movies like Beetlejuice, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, Wyatt Earp, and more.
The actress made her mark in the comedy scene appearing in several mockumentary-style movies including Best In Show, For Your Consideration, Waiting for Guffman, and A Mighty Wind, all made with Christopher Guest.
Another frequent collaborator of hers was Eugene Levy, who was a cast member on Second City with her and starred alongside her in the mockumentary movies and the critically-acclaimed show Schitt’s Creek.
O’Hara and Levy played Moira and Johnny Rose, a couple who lost their fortune after being defrauded by their business manager and are forced to move to a town called Schitt’s Creek, which Johnny bought as a joke for his son years ago.
O’Hara’s portrayal of Moira Rose, a former soap opera actress, garnered her a newfound popularity, as well as an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Golden Globe for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or COmedy, and Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance vt a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.
O’Hara also lent her voice to the movies Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicken Little, Over the Hedge, Monster House, Brother Bear 2, Where The Wild Things Are, Elemental, and The Wild Robot.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, whom she met on the set of Beetlejuice. He is a production designer. Together they had two children together, Matthew and Luke. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
This is a developing story…
