THE VOICE: Karen Waldrup Wins Knockout With Emotional Trisha Yearwood “Georgia Rain” Cover
on Apr 15, 2024
The second round of The Voice Knockouts went down Monday (April 15) and brought us one of the season’s best performances from Karen Waldrup.
Karen Waldrup, a Louisiana native, is an accomplished singer and songwriter with a resume most artists only dream of. With years of live performing experience to her credit, it’s no surprise that Waldrup has continually delivered incredible performances throughout her journey on The Voice.
During her Blind Audition, Karen performed Jo Dee Messina’s “Bye Bye” and earned chair turns from Dan + Shay and Reba. But, Karen automatically landed on Team Dan + Shay after they used their only block against Reba to guarantee the opportunity to work with the talented vocalist.
During her Battle Round, Waldrup defeated teammate Ryan Argast when they fought it out during a duet of their coaches’ hit song, “Save Me The Trouble.”
But it was Monday night’s Knockout Round performance of Trisha Yearwood’s 2005 hit “Georgia Rain” that may have cemented Karen Waldrup’s place as this season’s frontrunner. Dan + Shay put Waldrup up against her team mate Ducote Talmage who performed “She Got The Best Of Me” by Luke Combs.
The coaching panel called Talmage’s performance his best of the season. And it was clear when Karen took the stage that Dan and Shay had a tough decision on their hands. But, it was ultimately Karen who won the Knockout and sent Ducote home.
The coaches were mesmerized as they listened intently to Waldrup’s flawless and beautiful performance. As she concluded the song, all of the coaches were on their feet applauding, clearly moved by the power of her vocals.
