Donald Trump Signs Four Executive Orders Impacting The U.S. Military
Just one week after being officially sworn in as president, Donald Trump signed four major executive orders on Monday, January 27, while aboard Air Force One.
The new set of executive orders focuses on restructuring the U.S. military. These orders include reinstating service members who voluntarily left or were dismissed for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine, launching a plan to develop a domestic missile defense system, called the “American Iron Dome,” getting rid of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, and banning transgender individuals from military service.
These new executive orders are just a few of President Trump’s actions early in his second term. Other examples include signing orders to declassify files related to the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK.

What Do These Executive Orders Signed By Trump Mean?
The new executive orders reverse policies from the previous Biden administration.
The first executive order will reinstate dismissed service members who refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Hill states that the order will also give those individuals “their former rank and receive full back pay, benefits, bonus payments or compensation.”
Another initiative involves launching plans to develop the “American Iron Dome,” a missile defense system designed to strengthen national security. An official statement from the White House states that the project will protect America from “ballistic, hypersonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next-generation aerial attacks from peer, near-peer, and rogue adversaries.”
Trump’s third executive order calls to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the military. The abolishment of these programs is intended to remove any decisions that could be made over race or sex-based preferences within the military.
The fourth executive order focuses on transgender military members, setting new requirements that could lead to the discharge of those who no longer meet the Trump administration’s guidelines regarding the armed forces.
