1883 follows the Dutton family’s decision to move to Montana in hopes of escaping poverty. 1883 also highlights Manifest Destiny, a belief that drove settlers to dispute with Native Americans who occupied the plains. According to Deadline, production will begin in Texas in late summer 2021, and the series is expected to debut on Paramount+ later in the year.

On Instagram, both Hill and McGraw finally shared the news of their role with fans. The country superstars will portray James and Margaret Dutton, the heads of the Dutton family. Elliot will portray Shea Brennan, a rugged cowboy with a dark past.

“Finally the day has come when I get to share some exciting news with you! I will be playing Margaret Dutton, the original matriarch of the Dutton family in the Yellowstone prequel 1883,” Hill wrote on her Instagram page. “Just wait, you have never seen anything like this!”
