Warning, Spoilers Ahead: Episode 12 Of Yellowstone Season 5 Full Recap

With only three episodes remaining of Yellowstone, episode 12 primarily focused on the ranch hands. They had been in the background for much of the season, but this week, they took center stage.

In this episode of Yellowstone, the beloved character, Colby, was killed. As a long-time ranch hand on the show, his death was particularly heartbreaking, occurring at the hooves of a horse.

Tragically, just after saying “I love you” for the first time to his girlfriend, Colby heroically intervened to save a young ranch hand’s life, ultimately sacrificing his own in the process.

Colby’s girlfriend, Teeter, who also worked as a ranch hand, wept on horseback when she first learned about her boyfriend’s passing. Soon after, the crew gathered to discuss his death and tried to comfort her. They mentioned that he didn’t suffer because it was a quick death, to which she responded:

“He is a cowboy; suffering is the job. I just wish he would have suffered a little longer so I could say goodbye.”

In addition to the devastating loss, the ranch hands were also seen discussing what they would do if the ranch were sold.

What About The Dutton Kids?

After the death of his lover in the previous episode, Jaime is only seen on screen for a brief scene in which detectives question him about the murder. He panics and makes himself a suspect by yelling at the detectives.

They did not assume he had anything to do with her murder or the murder of his father until that moment.

After the detectives leave his house, Jaime runs upstairs and shreds documents. It can be assumed that he was tampering with evidence.

Beth shows her softer side by comforting the men after Colby’s death. Although she doesn’t appear much in this episode, she shares a tender moment with her husband, Rip. He blames himself for the death of his man, feeling guilty for not having killed the horse sooner.

Kayce has the most interesting and out-of-character scene in this episode. Throughout the show, the audience sees just brief moments of Kayce using his military training, especially when saving someone’s life.

This episode however he used it to threaten the man who killed his father.

A hired military team killed John Dutton. Kayce discovered the man responsible and cornered him while he was in a car with his daughter. With a gun to the man’s head, Kayce threatened him, determined to ensure that no further harm would come to his family.

With only two more episodes of Yellowstone left and many unresolved plot points, this season is bound to have an exciting ending.
