Blake Shelton Reacts To Rumors Ariana Grande Is Replacing Him On “The Voice”
on Sep 27, 2021 • Updated Jan 24, 2023
Blake Shelton has served as a coach on The Voice for all 21 of its seasons. He is the only coach remaining from the original lineup, which included Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and CeeLo Green.
Shelton is also the coach with the most wins to his name. Eight of his team members have claimed the Voice trophy, with Season 20’s Cam Anthony being his most recent winner.
While Shelton has remained a constant presence on The Voice, he’s worked with a number of other singers on the show. Kelly Clarkson and John Legend have served as coaches for several seasons now, and joined Shelton to coach Season 21 this fall. But the fourth red chair had a new occupant this season.
Pop star Ariana Grande joined The Voice as a new coach for Season 21. She fills the chair left vacant by Nick Jonas, who has served as a coach for two seasons.
Season 21 kicked off on September 20, and Grande’s fans loved seeing her in action as a coach. And now, there are rumors she may end up earning a permeant place on the show.
Reports began circulating that The Voice is hoping to bring in a younger audience, and sees Grande as the key. One outlet claims to have spoken to a Voice “insider” who says that the show is looking to “quietly replace” Shelton with “someone younger and more current” like Grande.
The same outlet also quotes “a top Hollywood agent,” who claims bigger talents are now interested in joining the show after seeing Grande participate. According to this “Hollywood agent,” that means it’s time for Shelton to go:
“It is time for a shake-up,” the “agent” said. “The only way the show remains fresh is by constantly evolving. Huge stars that wouldn’t even consider joining the show a few months ago are now thinking again, thanks to Ariana.”
Shelton caught wind of these rumors, and had a priceless reaction. He messaged one of the articles to Grande, and made it clear he’s not happy that she’s allegedly replacing him on the show.
Grande shared Shelton’s texts, in which he joked, “Thanks a lot Ari… Thanks a f—–’ lot..”
Based on Shelton’s playful tone in his message, we’re assuming there’s no truth to the rumors that Grande is replacing him on The Voice. We hope Shelton will remain on the show for many seasons to come.
