Yearwood stood at the foot of the cross, rested her hand on top of it, and started singing softly. Some of the people watching were immediately overcome with emotion and started crying. Yearwood also teared up as she moved through the song’s opening lines.
But she couldn’t control her tears any longer when she got closer to the end. Her emotions were obvious as she sang, “I’m holdin’ on.” The camera moved through the audience, showing how many people were touched by Yearwood’s performance.
The morning after The Passion aired, Yearwood shared a post on her Facebook page expressing her feelings about her role in the special:
“I woke up this morning feeling so blessed and grateful,” she said. “Thank you for your well wishes and prayers. I felt your strength last night. God bless you all and thank you to The Passion Live for renewing my spirit and strengthening my faith.”
