Legendary actor Bruce Willis’s wife marked the 17th anniversary of their relationship in a touching post made to social media amid his battle with dementia.

Emma Heming-Willis, 46, and Bruce Willis, 69, met in 2007 while working out at a mutual friend’s gym and said “I do” two years later. The couple share two daughters: Mabel and Evelyn.

In 2022, the Willis family shared that the “Die Hard” actor was retiring from acting due to being diagnosed with aphasia, the “loss of ability to understand or express speech, caused by brain damage.” Roughly a year later, fans were told that Bruce had been given a “more specific diagnosis” of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, FTD causes changes in behavior, personality, language, and movement. There is currently no cure and no treatments available to slow the progression of the disease.

Following his diagnosis, Bruce Willis’s family has supported him and kept fans up to date on his health.

On December 29, his wife, Emma Heming-Willis, shared an emotional message in honor of the 17th anniversary of her meeting Bruce. She wrote:

“17 years of us ❤️ Anniversaries used to bring excitement — now, if I’m honest, they stir up all the feelings, leaving a heaviness in my heart and a pit in my stomach. I give myself 30 minutes to sit in the ‘why him, why us,’ to feel the anger and grief. Then I shake it off and return to what is,” Emma said. “And what is… is unconditional love. I feel blessed to know it, and it’s because of him. I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat.”

Willis’ three daughters with ex-wife Demi Moore have also posted about their dad since his diagnosis.

Rumer, 36, honored her dad on his most recent birthday with a touching post praising him as a father, showing thankfulness that she is his daughter, and reminiscing about days gone by.

“Oh Daddio, to be loved by you is such a gift. You are the funniest, most tender, charming, out of this world silly talented and magical papa. Looking through these photos this morning I am just filled with the deepest gratitude that we chose to spend this life together,” Rumer wrote. “I am your first baby and man sometimes I wish I could be tiny enough to just cozy up on your chest again and laugh and cuddle you. I love you so deep in my bones I don’t know how my muscles hold them. You are the greatest papa I could ever hope for. Thank you for your generosity, your silliness and heart. Lou loves you so big. Happy Birthday Daddio”

The message was accompanied by a series of throwback photos.
