Who Is Country Singer Drew Baldridge?

Drew Baldridge is celebrating a huge milestone in his career, as he just earned his first #1 hit. Plus, he managed to make history in the process.

Baldridge is not new to the country music industry. He released his debut single, “B.Y.O.B.,” in 2013. His debut studio album, Dirt on Us, came out in 2016. He embarked on a tour with Lee Brice and Cole Swindell to promote the album.

Baldridge scored his first Country Airplay hit with his 2016 single, “Dance with Ya.” He earned three additional hits on the same chart in the years that followed: “Rebound,” “Guns & Roses,” and “Senior Year.”

Then, in 2019, Baldridge released the original version of a song that country fans now know and love. That song is called “She’s Somebody’s Daughter.”

“She’s Somebody’s Daughter” expresses how a woman is so much more than “a pretty face” or “a last-call kiss.” The song’s touching chorus details how she’s someone’s daughter, therefore making her someone’s “everything.”

The chorus’ last lines warn that if you don’t treat her right, then “hers won’t be the only heart you’re breaking.”

I just try to make music for people’s souls,” Baldridge told PEOPLE when speaking about the song and his music in general. “I try to create music that I hope that God wants me to create that will have an impact. I used to pray that God would let me make music that means something and that somebody needs.

Unfortunately, upon its initial release, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” didn’t appear on any charts.

Shortly after Baldridge originally released “She’s Somebody’s Daughter,” his record label, Cold River, closed. Baldridge formed his own record label, Lyric Ridge Records, and continued to release singles independently over the next several years.

Remarkably, two years after its release, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” started going viral online in 2021. That same year, Baldridge married his wife, Katherine.

He released a new music video, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter (The Wedding Version),” containing footage from their wedding day. That music video now has over 64 million views on YouTube.

“She’s Somebody’s Daughter” continued to gain traction, prompting Baldridge to release a reimagined version of the song in 2023. It took off from there and has since reached the #1 spot on the Mediabase Country chart.

In doing so, Baldridge is the first country artist to independently earn their first #1 song. As CMT detailed in a post about the accomplishment, Baldridge reached this feat without label support, and his efforts were entirely self-funded.

Baldridge reacted to the history-making milestone in a video he shared on Instagram. He said:

We’ve officially made history. We’re the first artist to ever independently get their first #1 song, and I just can’t believe it,” he said with a smile. He admitted he had shed a few tears as he reflected on his ” journey ” to get to this point.

He started to tear up again as he continued, “The whole community, country radio, y’all have rallied behind us. And to think now we have the number one song in the whole country, it’s unbelievable.”
