‘Friends’ Star Matthew Perry Dead At 54

Matthew Perry, beloved actor and star of Friends, died Saturday at the age of 54 after a tragic accident.
TMZ was the first to report the news, saying that Perry was found deceased after apparently drowning. Authorities responded to a call to the home for a cardiac arrest and found Perry unresponsive in a jacuzzi at a home in the Los Angeles area, law enforcement officials told the news outlet.
They also added that no drugs were found at the scene and no foul play is suspected.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson told PEOPLE that officers responded to a call stating that a man in his 50s was deceased at Perry’s address, but declined to confirm his identity.
Matthew Perry co-starred on the NBC sitcom Friends for 10 years alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
While his role as Chandler Bing on Friends was his most memorable, the actor also appeared in numerous other television shows throughout his career, such as, Boys Will Be Boys, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Charles in Charge, Sydney, Beverly Hills, 90210, Home Free, Ally McBeal, The West Wing, Scrubs, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Go On, The Odd Couple and more.He had several big screen credits as well, including Fools Rush In, The Whole Nine Yards, Three to Tango, The Kid, 17 Again, Getting In and others.
Despite his career success, Perry suffered with addictions to drugs and alcohol. He detailed his struggles in a memoir published in 2022 title Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

In the book he wrote about health struggles caused by his years of substance abuse that included “an exploded colon, a brief stint on life support, two weeks in a coma, nine months with a colostomy bag, more than a dozen stomach surgeries, and the realization that, by the time he was 49, he had spent more than half of his life in treatment centers or sober living facilities.”
Matthew Perry never married, but is survived by millions of Friends around the world.
