5 Fun Facts You Didn’t Know About “Dutton Ranch” Star Finn Little

Anyone who follows the Yellowstone universe knows the character Carter (played by Finn Little).
He first appeared in the original series as a troubled young boy who Beth and Rip took in as their adoptive son after his father’s death. Then, when Yellowstone ended and Beth and Rip got their own spinoff, Dutton Ranch, Carter remained a major part of the story throughout the first season.
In fact, he was at the center of one of the biggest cliffhangers in the season finale. We won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t watched yet, but you can see a recap of that episode here.
Over the last five years, we’ve learned a lot about Carter, but how much do you really know about the actor behind him? Keep reading to check out a few fun facts about Finn Little that you probably haven’t heard before.
1. He’s Originally From Australia
You’d never guess it because of his convincing American accent, but Finn is actually from Australia.
He was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
2. He Started Acting At Five Years Old
Finn’s acting career actually started when he was just 5 years old, appearing in TV commercials. His first major film role came along when he was in Storm Boy at age 10.
In a 2021 interview with The Film Pie, Finn shared that his mother wanted to put both him and his sister in live performances to help build their confidence and improve their public speaking.
3. He’s Been In Other Taylor Sheridan Projects
Before landing the role of Carter in Yellowstone, Finn had already worked with Taylor Sheridan.
In 2021, he appeared in Sheridan’s film Those Who Wish Me Dead, alongside Angelina Jolie.
4. He Had No Idea Who Nicolas Cage Was Before Working With Him
At just 20 years old, Finn has already worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars… but that doesn’t mean he knows who they are.
In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Finn admitted he had no idea who Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage was before they worked together. The two starred in The Surfer, with Cage playing Finn’s father.
“I knew the name Nick Cage, but I couldn’t put his face to it,” he told the outlet. “I don’t know a lot of the people I work with, which is probably pretty bad.”
5. He Flubbed His One And Only Line During His Dutton Ranch Scene With Annette Bening
Even though Finn says he doesn’t always recognize the famous actors he works with, that wasn’t the case with legendary actress Annette Bening.
When she joined the Dutton Ranch cast as Beulah, Finn admitted his first impression wasn’t what he had hoped for.
“I had one scene with her. Man, I wish I could say it went better,” Finn told PEOPLE. “Something was wrong with me that day.”
The scene between Carter and Beaulah was actually very short. The two met for the first time at the 10-Petal Ranch anniversary party, and all Finn had to do was introduce himself and shake Annette’s hand.
“I don’t know what it was. I had dry mouth or something,” Finn adds. “I had one line with her, and every single take I … couldn’t get it out.”
The premiere date for Season 2 of Dutton Ranch has not been announced yet. Paramount+ officially renewed the series on June 24 after its record-breaking first season.
