Billie Jean Horton was born as the daughter of a police chief in Bossier City, Louisiana, on June 6, 1933. She first married Harrison Eshleman at a young age, but they divorced. Then, Billie Jean met country singer Hank Williams through her then-boyfriend, Faron Young.

Billie Jean Horton Marries Hank Williams

As mentioned above, Billie Jean Horton and Hank Williams met through Faron Young, another country artist. Sparks flew between Billie Jean and Hank, and they fell in love.

In October of 1952, Hank and Billie Jean were married at a private ceremony in Minden, Louisiana. Billie Jean was 19 at the time, while Hank was 29. The two were married just a few months before Hank’s untimely passing on New Year’s Day 1953.

Bille Jean Horton Marries Johnny Horton

Later that same year (1953), Billie Jean married country singer Johnny Horton. They married in the summer, meaning Billie Jean would have been 19 or 20 at the time. She went on to play a pivotal role in promoting his career.

Not even seven years after they wed, Johnny lost his life in a tragic car accident, leaving Billie Jean widowed for the second time in her life.

Billie Jean was devastated and decided to express her feelings in a song. In 1961, she released the heartfelt “Ocean of Tears.” The song was a huge hit for Billie Jean, peaking in the top 40 of the Billboard charts.

The song discusses the passing of both of Billie Jean’s husbands, which some may consider controversial. In the song, Billie Jean expresses her feelings, saying, “Now I’m drifting on an ocean of my tears. Oh, how I’d love to anchor in the Heaven of your heart, where the tide of jealousy could never drift us far apart.”
