Hardy Delivers Electrifying “Truck Bed” Performance At ACM Awards
on May 11, 2023
Country music fans were over-the-top excited about the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards and there are plenty of reasons why.
This year, the awards show is taking place in Frisco, Texas at the Ford Center at The Star and was hosted by none other than country legends Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. But, what had everyone talking is the performance by and up-and-coming superstar, Hardy.
Hardy’s duet with Lainey Wilson’s, “Wait In The Truck,” earned three nominations this year: Song of the Year, Visual Media Of The Year and Music Event Of The Year. Hardy was also nominated for Artist-Songwriter Of The Year. Prior to Thursday’s live awards show, Hardy was named Artist-Songwriter of the Year, and he and Lainey Wilson were surprised with the Visual Media of the Year trophy.

“Wait In The Truck” is a haunting ballad about a man who kills an abuser. Lainie Wilson plays the part of a domestic abuse victim, while Hardy plays the hero who rescues her from the abuse. The song, written by Hardy and Hunter Phelps, is just one example of the raw and authentic music that Hardy has become known for.
Hardy’s inspirational success story is similar to that of other country artists who first found success as a songwriter before becoming an soloist.
After moving to Nashville to pursue songwriting, Hardy became a writing partner for Florida Georgia Line. As his songwriting talent blossomed, he went on to write songs for some of country music’s biggest acts. His songwriting credits include “God’s Country” by Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line’s “Simple” and “Up Down” by Morgan Wallen.
But it was his song “Truck Bed” that he chose to perform at the 2023 AMC Awards.
