President Trump Signs Executive Order Targeting Ticket Scalpers While Kid Rock Stands By His Side
Kid Rock joined President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday (March 31) as Trump signed an executive order.
FOX News reports the order aims to stop “exploitative ticket scalping” in the entertainment industry. Ticket scalping, or ticket reselling, occurs when tickets for concerts, sporting events, and theatrical productions are purchased with the goal of reselling them at a higher price to make a profit.
Scalpers, who often use bots to purchase tickets, work incredibly fast. They snatch up in-demand tickets before legitimate fans can purchase them. As a result, those who desperately want to see their favorite performer, sports team, or musical will pay the marked-up prices for resale tickets.
What Does The New Executive Order About Ticket Scalping Aim To Accomplish?
As FOX News details, President Trump’s newly signed executive order gives the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) direction “to work with the attorney general to ensure that competition laws are enforced in the concert and entertainment industry.“
The new order also enforces the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act, with its enforcement promoted by state consumer protection authorities.
Additionally, the order ensures price transparency in the ticket-purchasing process. If needed, action will be taken to stop “unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive conduct” in the market.
The Treasury Department, DOJ, and FTC will deliver a report within 180 days summarizing steps taken to combat what FOX News describes as “unfair practices” in ticket sales. These departments will recommend additional regulations or legislation that may be needed to protect legitimate ticket purchasers.
For his part, Kid Rock feels this executive order tackles a major problem in the live entertainment industry.
“Anyone who’s bought a concert ticket in the last decade, maybe 20 years, no matter what your politics are, knows it is a conundrum,” he said. “If you buy a ticket for 100 bucks by the time you check it out, it’s 170. You don’t know what you can charge for it, but more importantly, these bots you know, they come in to get all the good tickets to your favorite shows you want to go to, and then they’re relisted immediately for sometimes a 4 or 500% markup.”
He added that performers, “don’t see any of that money” resellers earn from marking up their tickets.

Kid Rock And The President Have Been Friends For Years
Kid Rock has been a longtime friend and supporter of President Trump. They’ve gone golfing together and attended UFC fights together. Additionally, Kid Rock performed at Trump’s “Victory Rally” for his second inauguration.
More recently, Trump shared that he will meet with Bill Maher at the White House at Kid Rock’s request. The President and Maher have been critical of each other in the past, so Trump is not fond of the idea of having him over for a meeting.
Still, the President agreed to invite Maher to the White House as a favor to his good friend Kid Rock. He said:
“Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong? In any event, I’m doing a favor for a friend. I look forward to meeting with Bill Maher, Kid Rock and, I believe, even the Legendary Dana White will be present. It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!”
